Lapad

Lapad is actually a part of the city of Dubrovnik in Croatia. This suburb is located on a peninsula in the northwestern part of the city, outside what is termed as the Old Town. Most of the city’s beautiful beaches are located in Lapad.

Sights & Activities

Most visitors come to Lapad to enjoy the clear waters of the Lapad Bay and take leisurely strolls along several of its beaches. Some of the beaches have concrete areas for visitors who do not wish to walk on sand. The waters of the Bay make the whole peninsula ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Waterskiing and windsurfing are also some of the activities visitors can indulge in. Equipments can be rented in several of the resorts in the area.

Kayaking enthusiasts can head out to Beach Vis I and hire kayaks for a day of exploring along the peninsula. Canoes are also available for rent. This particular beach is also famous for its cocktail parties that are organized almost every day of the year, for the enjoyment of both locals and visitors.

For those who like to enjoy some sort of privacy, the nearby Splendid beach is their ideal destination. It features some rocky parts that provide some measure of protection from the rest of the locals and visitors.

For those who wish to go on picnics, a short walk to the beach Villa will lead visitors to an attractive place that is composed of sandy, rocky, and pebbly parts.

Beach volleyball enthusiasts can find several courts located along the beaches and can make use of these courts for their enjoyment.

A walkway was also constructed for romantic walks and provides a setting to enjoy the setting sun. There are also numerous cafes lining the walkway, providing shelter from the sun and offering lights snacks and meals, as well as refreshments, to visitors. A short walk will also yield a nice view of the nearby Daksa island.

Though mostly residential, Lapad is also the location of many hotels and restaurants that cater to visitors who come every year, especially during the summer season.

In addition, Lapad also enjoys a vibrant nightlife, with several bars and clubs established in this suburb, especially along the beaches. Some of these establishments are also outdoor bars, allowing its patrons to enjoy the soft breeze that come blowing in.

The central part of Dubrovnik is located a short distance south of Lapad and is accessible by regular bus service plying the route several times a day. This way, even those staying in Lapad can still have the option of exploring the historic sites of the city anytime they want without much effort in their part.

Eating Out

There are several dining establishments that visitors can choose from in Lapad. One is the Atlantic-Cucina Italiana along Kardinala Stepinca. Other nearby Italian restaurants are the Pergola and the Fellini Trattoria. Visitors also have the option of trying the meals served as Kompas, at the Levanat, the Maestoso, and the Orsan Yacht Club. All of these restaurants are located within walking distance from each other in Lapad.
