Mount Pilatus ‘Golden Roundtrip’ Tour from Zurich

A unique excursion to Central Switzerland. You will travel by coach over the lovely Albis Pass (792 m) and along Lake of the Four Cantons to Lucerne. Short city tour with the main sights of Lucerne: The Lion Monument, the famous wooden Chapel Bridge, the Jesuit Church, the Town Hall, the Congress and Concert Hall. Afterwards enjoy approximately one hour at leisure (great strolling and shopping in the car-free Old Town).

The journey continues to Kriens, from where you take a ride with the panoramic gondolas and aerial cableway to Mount Pilatus (7000 ft/2132 m) the forbidden mountain in the Middle Ages. From here you will enjoy an unforgettable view over the surrounding mountains and lakes. Don’t miss the Dragon’s Path, the short hike to the summit and enjoy a Swiss specialty on the terrace of the peak restaurant (optional). Descent on the world’s steepest cogwheel railway (48% gradient) to Alpnachstad, followed by a lovely boat ride on the picturesque Lake Lucerne.

During the tour you can choose to ride on the longest Toboggan Run in Switzerland (4500 ft/1.4 km). If you would like to take the ride, an additional fee is payable directly to the guide. It’s great fun!

Cog-wheel train and boat ride start operating around May 10, depending on the snow conditions. You will be given a Swiss Cheese Raclette or Pilatus Rosti (potato dish) instead of the boat ride. Before that time, the Mt. Pilatus tour operates the same way as in winter - aerial cable car up and down.

Heidiland - Great Countryside Tour

Find out for yourself that Heidi’s world is not just a children’s story – it really exists! It’s a world of mountains and valleys, alpine lakes and meadows, waterfalls, gorges, caves and fascinating scenic reserves.

After first doing a city tour of Zurich we follow Lake Zurich to Rapperswil, the city of roses. We visit the picturesque Old Town and its medieval castle; you will also have some time at leisure here. Then after crossing the Ricken Pass with its panoramic views of the Alps we reach the lovely Toggenberg region whose pretty hill and valley scenery is perfect chocolate box material!

In Vaduz, the capital of the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein you will have more time at leisure. A visit to the Post Office is recommended; the famous stamps from this tiny state are coveted worldwide by philatelists and amateur stamp lovers alike. And finally we arrive at Maienfeld, the setting for the Heidi stories. In the summer months we can visit Heidi’s village. A pleasant short walk leads to a collection of typical mountain houses, a village shop, and of course lots of little goats. (Goat Peter isn’t far away …) Entry into the authentic Heidi House is optional.

A beautiful trip back to Zurich along the banks of Lake Walen, guarded over majestically by the Churfirsten mountain range brings to a close this most nostalgic of Swiss tours.
