Next you will continue northwards where the drive will take you past the attractive town of Linlithgow with its palace ruins overlooking a lovely loch. It was here that Mary, Queen of Scots was born in 1542.

Stirling is the next treat. Here there is an opportunity to visit Stirling Castle. The castle overlooks the ancient city of Stirling and is one of the historic buildings that have come to symbolize the spirit of Scotland. An extended stop in Stirling will allow a leisurely visit to the Castle or the chance to explore the town itself.

A scenic drive continues through the village of Doune, with its 14th century castle to Callander, a pleasant tourist town that became popular in Victorian times. The Trossachs is a wonderful area of lochs and wild mountain vistas. You travel by Loch Venachar then climb the dramatic Dukes Pass to the pretty village of Aberfoyle, where a stop will be made.

You will end the tour on a real high-note as you drive to the “bonnie, bonnie banks” of Loch Lomond. You will stop in Balloch where you can enjoy an optional cruise on the loch or visit the nearby Loch Lomond National Park Visitor Center.

Find out on this splendid tour through the glorious Scottish Highlands!

The journey northwards takes you through Rob Roy MacGregor country to desolate Rannoch Moor. You will travel through haunting Glen Coe, the “Glen of Weeping”. In 1692, 40 of the resident MacDonald clan were massacred in cold blood by the Campbells for not forswearing the Jacobite cause. It is said that you can still hear their cries! You will stop in this awe-inspiring place to marvel at the natural beauty of the glen for yourself.

Next travel to Fort William, which sits in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain. A real highlight is the drive through the Great Glen which is also the route taken by the Caledonian Canal. You will criss-cross the canal several times as you travel to Inverness. The Great Glen contains three lochs which will offer spectacular vistas.

Firstly Loch Lochy, then Loch Oich and lastly Loch Ness. The pretty little village of Fort Augustus is our gateway to Scotland’s largest and most famous loch. You will tour the entire length of Loch Ness, stopping at Urquhart Castle for a photograph. Here you can visit the Castle and enjoy a cruise (optional, not included in tour cost) on the loch … could that shadow be the monster?

Shortly you will arrive in Inverness where you will make a stop to discover the Capital of the Highlands for yourself. Later you will start the journey southwards through the Spey Valley then on to the dramatic scenery of Glen Garry. There will be a brief stop in the delightful Victorian resort of Pitlochry before returning to Glasgow.

The Haunted Underground Experience tour visits what BBC News described as “probably the most haunted place in Britain” - the South Bridge Vaults.
The true extent of supernatural activity in these historic vaults, hidden for almost two centuries, is only now being catalogued. The Vaults were the focus of The Edinburgh Ghost Project during the 2001 Edinburgh International Science Festival. So extensive was this study that it made an entry into The Guinness Book of Records.

The Project confirmed what visitors had known for some time, both visitors and guides have witnessed the spirits of former vault residents, from the little boy to the dreaded malevolent male who stalks groups as they pass through his chambers. Paranormal experiences have taken different forms - touch, sight, sound, smell: all have been provoked. Guests regularly report their experiences, from the eerie to the terrifying, the strange to the inexplicable. Others prefer to forget …

During the tour you will hear spine-chilling and mysterious accounts, corroborated by accounts from psychics and the Ghost Project. You may or may not have your own explanations, but you cannot ignore the experiences of others. An experience could be awaiting you. Chilling? Disturbing? Exciting? Book now to find out!

What gave off the foul stench that greet the Duke at his Edinburgh home? Why can voices be heard to this day in an empty guest-house room? Find the answers to these and many more questions!
Your cloaked guide leads you through the murky depths of Edinburgh’s Old Town and leaves you with plenty to ponder as you return to your accommodation - alone? It is right and fitting that the tour begins at the Mercat Cross, scene of punishment and public executions in Edinburgh’s past.

The tour begins with the tale of the one survivor of Scotland’s terrible defeat by the English at Flodden in 1513. How did he secure his safety?

Next discover what depraved and satanic acts were perpetrated by the Wizard of the West Bow ….. Mad? or Bad? No ghost tour is complete without a visit to the haunted underground vaults beneath the South Bridge. In the candlelit rooms shadows dance on damp stone walls - you will shiver to tales of strange and sinister happenings there. Some of the spirits that haunt these vaults are malevolent and resentful of intrusion. Whatever you do, do not wander off alone. No-one will go back to find you!

As you proceed down the Canongate listen out for the sound of ghostly bagpipes. The Canongate Graveyard is the last resting place of many an Edinburgh worthy and provides an eerie backdrop for our final tales of the evening. You will venture deep into this necropolis, over the mouldering remains of your forefathers. Moonlight falls on the gravestones … the wind whistles through the trees … time to learn of Edinburgh’s notorious bodysnatchers. Dare you join us?

Pass Linlithgow Palace (birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots), the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Continue through Crianlarich and Tyndrum, where the ambush of Robert the Bruce took place.

The remote wildness of Rannoch Moor spills out before you as you travel north, reaching the most dramatic of all Highland glens - Glencoe. Steeped in history and beauty, here you will hear the truth about the infamous massacre of clan MacDonald in 1692.

From Glencoe, journey through Fort William, site of the original Fort built as a military post during the Jacobite Rebellions in the 18th century. Continue up the Great Glen, a geological rift 65 miles long with 3 lochs - Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness - between Fort William and Inverness.

At Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness you will stop for lunch, then you can join the Royal Scot for an hour long cruise on the Loch. The boat has a sonar system on board, so if Nessie is around you will not miss her! (This boat only operates between Easter and the end of October)

After lunch make a stop at Spean Bridge before heading through the mountains of the Cairngorms National Park.

From here, turn west across the National Nature Reserve of Craig Meagaidh, and along the shores of Loch Laggan where “Monarch of the Glen” is filmed. Arriving at Dalwhinnie, pass by Scotland’s highest distillery. Continuing over the Drummochter Summit, where herds of red deer are often seen, and into the Victorian town of Pitlochry for the final stop for the day.

Continue south through Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” country, pass Loch Leven, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, and continue over the Forth Road Bridge to Edinburgh.
