Its capital, Berne, is home to several attractions that visitors can explore. The Berne Historical Museum houses extensive collections of ethnographic and historical materials dating back to the prehistoric times. A similar establishment is the Kunstmuseum or the Museum of Fine Arts, which showcases collections of fine art pieces. It is also considered as the oldest art museum in the country. Those interested in the works of artist Paul Klee should head out to the Zentrum Paul Klee, Monument im Fruchtland. The artist’s collection of artworks is housed in an unusual building that was constructed to resemble a wave.

Also located in Berne is the Zytglogge or the Clock Tower located within the old town. Every hour, the clock puts on a mechanical display that is a delight to see. Visitors can also climb this 12th century tower with a guide. Afterwards, they can wander around the old town and marvel at its wonderful historic buildings and engage in a bit of shopping, as the area is also home to the longest shopping promenade in Europe.

In Geneva, there are also lots of interesting attractions awaiting visitors. Such is the Jet d’Eau, a fountain of water that reaches up to 140 meters in air. This attraction is located at the Lac Léman waterfront and is quite beautiful even at night when it’s well-lit.

The Cathédrale St-Pierre, located at Place St. Pierre, is another well-known landmark in the area. An underground passage connects the cathedral to the International Museum of the Reformation, which contains items related to that period of the country’s history.

Along Avenue de la Paix is the Palais des Nations, originally constructed to house the League of Nations. It contains numerous interesting items, including artworks. Visitors can also explore its library and its beautiful grounds.

Another popular tourist destination in Switzerland is the Old Town of Zurich. Guided tours are available to explore its cobbled lanes, historic buildings, and beautiful courtyards. The city is also the location of several impressive churches, such as the Fraumünster. This church is noted for its beautiful stained glass windows, while the Grossmünster features twin spires that are quite interesting. It also contains a crypt and the remains of a Romanesque cloister. Another religious structure, the St. Peter’s church, features a clock tower with the largest dial clock in the continent.

Those seeking for a quiet place to go in Zurich can head out to the Lake Promenade. Well-lit during evenings, it is suitable for nighttime strolls and for relaxing in during weekends.

Coffee lovers would do well to stop by the Jacob Coffee Museum on Seefeldquai. This museum emphasizes on the cultural aspects of coffee production and coffee drinking.

In Basel, visitors can head out to the Cathedral, a Gothic structure that stood on the site of an earlier cathedral from the Carolingian period. The present building contains the tomb of Erasmus of Rotterdam, a Dutch writer.

It is located in the ruins of a large villa and depicts varied subjects, including the Minotaur labyrinthe and the heroes Theseus and Ulysses.
