Graubunden is a canton in Switzerland and is part of the Alpine area of the country. The fresh mountain air and the beautiful sceneries awaiting visitors make this canton a popular tourist destination in the country. Sights & Activities

Arosa is nestled in the Schanfigg Valley and is recognized to be the ideal Alpine health resort. It is also known to be family-friendly, with a children’s program aimed to make their stay enjoyable and memorable. There are numerous hiking and walking trails around the resort while skiing facilities are also available during winter. There is also a Squirrel Trail that lets children experience feeding these friendly animals. Also located in the area is the Obersee water display, considerd to be the biggest of its kind in Europe. The Arosa Golf Course is an 18-hole facility that caters to golfing enthusiasts who can enjoy their sport amidst beautiful sceneries. Every August, the resort celebrates its Arosa Jazz Festival while the Arosa Humor Festival is done every December.

The town of Chur is the country’s oldest and has evolved to become an economic and cultural center in the area. It features a cathedral that has an altar that was carved during the 15th century. There are also numerous buildings and structures all over the older parts of the town that are of Gothic style and dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Several vineyards can also be found around the town and are ideal destinations for those who go exploring.

The resorts of Flims, Laax und Falera are known destinations for those who wish to go skiing and indulge in other winter sports such as snowboarding. The Belle Epoque hotel museum–the largest of its kind—is also located in the area.

Another family-friendly destination in Graubunden is Klosters, a quaint village that has several attractions suited for visitors of all ages. There is also the Bogn Engadin Scuol thermal baths found in Lower Engadine.

The valley of Lenzerheide is where the Heidsee Lido bathing beach is located. Children will have the time of their lives as they enjoy the pirate ship, rope bridge, and play stream.

In the Albula valley is the Alvaneu thermal baths that provide opportunities for visitors to soak in and loosen their tight muscles.

Of course, a visit to Graubunden would not be complete without stopping by the world-renowned resort of St. Moritz. It is where stars, athletes, members of royal families, and other noted personalities converge when they wish to spend their holidays in style. This resort also enjoys abundant sunshine the whole year through while its cosmopolitan air adds to its appeal to the jet set crowd. Its skiing facilities are also world-class.

St. Moritz is also located near the Swiss National Park, the country’s biggest nature reserve.

Weather

Graubunden enjoys a temperate climate that is ideal and comfortable to all kinds of tourists. Winter experiences temperatures hovering just above or below the freezing point, though extreme winter conditions are rarely experienced. Summer ushers in during the month of June, though the hottest months are experienced during July and August. Summer temperature averages 23°C, quite comfortable for outdoor explorations.
